The district administration claims to be committed to the Chief Minister’s pledge of public safety. District Magistrate and CEO of Smart City Ltd, Savin Bansal, upon assuming charge, had conducted thorough review meetings of the CCTV cameras installed for public safety in the city, resulting in the activation of previously inactive cameras.
In the past one month, 60 cameras, including those at Mussoorie Diversion and Sai Mandir, along Rajpur Road and other key locations, have been activated. This proved instrumental in assisting the police to track down a car involved in a hit-and-run incident yesterday.
When DM Bansal took charge as CEO of Smart City, 375 out of the 950 Smart City cameras were found to be non-functional. Following several review meetings, the DM imposed penalties on the responsible companies. As a result, 310 out of the 375 inactive cameras have been activated. A deadline of 15 April has been set for the activation of the remaining cameras. Bansal has warned that failure to meet this deadline will result in strict action, including blacklisting and filing an FIR against HP, and action against BSNL.
Furthermore, for the first time in five years, 150 police cameras have been integrated with the Smart Control Room for enhanced public safety. Additionally, 22 new cameras have been installed in Paltan Bazaar, helping to curb anti-social activities frequently reported in the area.
