The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) is set to launch a ‘Tree App’ as part of its Citizen App Panaji. This innovative tool will track the growth of saplings planted across the city.

Each sapling will be documented on the app, including its botanical and Konkani names, precise geolocation, initial height, and fencing status. A photo of each sapling will also be uploaded.

IPSCDL officials will conduct regular monitoring of these saplings to assess their growth and identify potential hurdles. This proactive approach will enable early detection of issues like insect infestations, temperature fluctuations, or inadequate watering.

“By conducting these regular checks, it becomes easier to track the development of the trees over a period of time. This process also aids in pinpointing any factors that could inhibit their growth. For example, through the monitoring, we will know if the growth is poor due to an attack by herbivorous insects or bugs, low temperature, or inadequate watering, etc. After identifying this we will take the required care and ensure healthy growth,” he said.

While the app will be integrated with the Citizen App Panaji, public access will be limited to viewing details and photos of over 1,004 saplings currently planted.

The IPSCDL will retain control over the app’s core functionalities.

“This move is part of a broader effort by IPSCDL to create a greener, more sustainable urban environment in Panaji. The formal launch of the Tree App will take place on Nov 22 during the IPSCDL’s urban tree management workshop at Dr F L Gomes garden in the city,” the official added.
