n a significant move towards enhancing urban safety and management, Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) has installed a total of 496 surveillance cameras across various locations in the city. Out of these, 460 cameras are currently operational, providing crucial support to the city’s police and administrative functions.

The Minister in-charge of the Urban Development Department shared this information in a written reply to a query raised by CPIM MLA Nayan Sarkar during the Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session. The minister stated, “Some cameras have been dismantled temporarily due to ongoing development and road widening works, but they will be re-installed soon.”

The ASCL’s Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), located at the DIT Building in Indranagar, has been established by Honeywell Automation India Limited, Pune, Maharashtra. This state-of-the-art facility is pivotal in the City Surveillance System – Agartala. “The ICCC is instrumental in aiding the police administration in crime prevention and the identification of criminals,” the minister added.

Beyond crime prevention, the surveillance system plays a vital role in flood and water logging management within the city. The Integrated Traffic Management System, which includes 30 traffic signals integrated into the ICCC, is a centralized traffic violation detection system that directly manages traffic violators. Other components of the ICCC include variable message display boards, a public address system, emergency call boxes, and an environmental monitoring system.

The minister highlighted, “CCTV cameras are also being utilized for wildlife monitoring during natural disaster management. The police department has successfully solved several criminal cases and a large number of theft cases with the help of CCTV camera footage.”

This elaborate surveillance network underscores Agartala’s commitment to becoming a safer and more efficiently managed city under the Smart City Mission.
