Transforming Government since 2001

In a bid to promote technical skills among the youth and make them industry-ready, the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Centre (APSSDC) has entered into an MoU with the Institute of Taxation and Accounting Professionals (iTAP).

The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister for Skill Development Kollu Ravindra and iTAP president R Venkateswara Rao at the inaugural session of a two-day national symposium ‘Smart Cities - Challenges and Opportunities’ began here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkateswara Rao said that cities were engines of economic growth. “It is anticipated that 40 percent of India’s population will live in cities by 2030.

There is a need for sustainable smart cities to transform the lives and living conditions of the citizens in the country. Smart cities will have to provide quality and affordable housing and cost-efficient physical, social and institutional infrastructure,” he said.

iTAP Amaravati Chapter vice-president and Efftronics managing director D Ramakrishna stressed the need to create awareness among government, industry and academia about various challenges and opportunities available in smart cities with latest technological trends like internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), big data, analytics and mobile applications.

APSSDC founder K Lakshminarayana explained how to build a safe and secure city and how to use waste as a resource.

Presenting his paper ‘Waste to Wealth - Refuse to Resource - Trash to Cash’, he talked about integrated townships, e-governance and citizen services, waste management, water, energy and mobility. He also dwelt upon the monitoring and evaluation of smart cities for increasing efficiency, effectiveness and impact.

On the second day of the symposium, City Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang will deliver the keynote address.

Subjects such as employment and opportunities in smart cities, sanitation, clean and disease-free India, building sustainable urban environment and building new energy society will be discussed at the meet.
