Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) North Maharashtra Zonal Council in partnership with Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) had organised a round table session on smart city recently when they emphasised on communication technologies for smart city.
The session also focused on key aspects of Smart Nashik like urban mobility, improving public utilities, waste management and e-governance. Representatives from various government departments were also present for the session.
During the address Municipal Commissioner Praveen Gedam informed about various steps taken by the corporation to transform Nashik into a smart city. He gave the example of smart cities in the world like New York, Boston etc.
"Industry has a major role in the smart cities project. We request CII members and industries for their whole-hearted support," said Gedam.
S Jaganathan, commissioner of police during his address mentioned that smart city project is an ongoing activity and it is a 5-year-project.
"Every citizen should get involved in keeping city neat, clean and safe. As government officials and police officer we need to make processes easy. The recent kumbh mela rewarded Nashik as a clean and safe city. It was possible because of great support from citizens, industry and government machinery," said Jaganathan.
Manvendra Deswal, senior consultant, infrastructure, CII said that CII had established a national mission for smart cities to contribute to this subject of national importance through policy advocacy and thought leadership to government and other stakeholders.
"Working towards smart cities, CII has already signed MoUs with three country consortiums - German (led by Siemens), Japan (led by Hitachi) and USA (led by Cisco). Consultations are already on to enter in to such arrangement with Singapore and Spain as well. Under the Mission, CII has already signed MoU with government of Andhra Pradesh and are already engaged with administrators of Chandigarh, Indore, Panjim and Nellore on smart city initiatives," said Deswal.
Sudhir Mutalik, chairman of CII North Maharashtra Zonal Council and managing director, Positive Metering Pumps India Pvt Ltd said, "Smart cities is a concept of emerging conceptual view of a city that promotes the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to engage with citizens to develop social and intellectual capital and to improve the use of hard infrastructure to support smart growth. The Smart city vision also compliments other large initiatives viz. digital India, industrial corridors and Make in India. The theme driving these initiatives would be to create productive assets while creating millions of jobs for the youth."
