The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday gave presentation on the Smart City project to the citizens while urging them to submit their views on how a smart city should be.
The suggestions from the citizens will be included in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project. "Citizens stand to win cash worth Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 for the first three best suggestions," the civic body said
Giving presentation on smart city, the municipal commissioner Praveen Gedam said, "The smart city is nothing but a city having good resources and better living standard. Nashik is one of the 100 cities selected for the smart city project. The involvement of citizens is mandatory for getting selected in the project. Around 20 of total 100 cities are to be selected in the first phase based on the detailed project report, submitted by the city. The smart city needs to fulfil around 24 categories."
He further said, "We have to submit the DPR of smart city to the government by November 30. The names of the cities selected for the smart city projects are to be announced by the central government in January 2016."
The major objective of the centre is to enhance the quality of urbanisation in the cities under the smart city projects. The funds are to be given to the smart cities to develop core infrastructure, including drinking water, sewage water, power sanitation, transport, housing and digital connectivity. They are also expected to push for e-governance and cleaner environmental standards. Such urban centres aim to use information technology for a more efficient delivery of civic services.
Each smart city as selected by the centre will be capable of executing works worth Rs 1,000 crore over five years. Rs 500 crore will be funded by the central government, while the state government will contribute Rs 250 crore. The city concerned will have to raise Rs 250 crore in five years period.
E-governance, waste management, water management, energy management, urban mobility and transport, education and skill development, health, area development, environment, social security and safety, tourism, art, culture and environment, and sports are amont the criteria to be included in the project.
