Smart Cities provide an enhanced quality of living that drives economic growth benefiting all sections. It also promotes clean and sustainable environment, said J Nivas, joint collector of Visakhapatnam district. He said that the Smart Cities Mission was launched by the Central government to transform urban landscape, for the benefit of people from all the sectors.
Nivas was addressing ‘Smart India - A Conference on Smart Solutions for Smart Cities’, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre, established under the joint participation of the Indian government, the Andhra Pradesh government and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in Visakhapatnam Friday.
The objective is to create awareness on Smart Cities, challenges and opportunities present in making our cities smart.
On the occasion, Nivas explained the efforts of the State Government for making smart cities and providing better infrastructure like Vizag Metro, VGTM Metro and International airports and Greenfield Airport in various cities across Andhra Pradesh. He stated that AP was a pioneer in Aadhaar-enabled services, e-Offices and e-Governance.
In his special address, Abhilash Puzhakara, deputy head of Smart Cities Mission in Hyderabad and head of Trade and Investment at the British Deputy High Commission, said that the UK was a pioneer in providing urban infrastructure and the 150-year-old London underground is a testimony of that. He emphasised that the UK was willing to collaborate with India in terms of Smart Cities Mission.
Earlier, CII Andhra Pradesh vice-chairman and Mapple Software Private Limited CEO G Shiv Kumar said that Vizag was the first city to be chosen for the Smart City project with the support of the US. He felt that Vizag should be made Wi-Fi enabled city.
Atria Convergence Technologies Pvt Ltd (ACT) MD Sunder Raju said that there were various aspects in Smart Cities and in terms of IT, a Smart City should be completely digitised.
