Transforming Government since 2001
Taking its firm steps towards next-gen technology, Indian government is now leveraging cloud computing with huge multi-billion dollar mission-mode projects.

Six of these projects will be started within just a month that will also help the government in evaluating what changes technology enhancement can bring for the improvisation of services for citizens.

Ram Sewak Sharma, Secretary of Department of Electronics & Information Technology (Deity) said that he has identified six of existing mission-mode projects – MMP, which will be evaluated by an internal group on the basis of the requirement of technology enhancement, scope for process simplification through advanced technologies and possibilities of leveraging new technology platform.

“We can re-design various projects. In many of these, we can offer SaaS – Software as a service, implement software centrally and everybody should be a client and begin using it. You can converge the infrastructure, re-write codes, improve efficiency, incorporate more technologies and use further delivery mediums,” said Sharma.

With this, the Indian government is aiming at e-governance system that will combine wings like banking, pensions, insurance and judiciary as well.

This will include Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & System – CCTNS scheme, e-court, treasuries, commercial taxes and road transport.

These projects are classified into central, state and integrated projects. And, each state can identify up to five mission-mode projects for itself.
