Transforming Government since 2001
Kerala State Government in India has introduced an e-payment gateway, enabling citizens to pay for various utility bills from one common online platform.

The gateway falls under the National Payment Services Platform (NPSP) which was launched by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) as part of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). NPSP aims to provide payment gateway services for e-governance projects. It is to support a complete transactional experience for citizens using the Government’s various online services.

Residents of Kerala can pay for electricity, water, telephone and education bills on the State’s e-payment gateway. The gateway currently accepts credit and debit cards from 66 banks. For residents who do not have an internet connection, they can access the gateway from ‘Akshaya’ citizen service centres across the State.

So far, 23 services can be paid for through the gateway, including those offered by the Motor Vehicle Department and Local Self-Government, with more services to be added in phases.
