This is part of a slew of measures being undertaken to take the university into e-governance, the first phase of which will be completed within six months. As part of this, the administration, examination, finance and admission wings will be fully computerized and linked in a network to make the university paperless in its operations. The entire work will be completed within one-and-a-half years.
Cusat has over 500 teaching staff including those on contract and 800 non-teaching staff. According to Registrar Dr A. Ramachandran, the punching system will improve the efficiency of the university by over 15 per cent by ensuring the presence of its entire workforce during working hours, which is not the case at present.
Work on computerizing the examination wing is on while projects related to administration and finance are in the tendering stage. “The admission process is now managed by National Informatics Centre and it has to be integrated into other systems in a network.
The administration will move to a digital filing system and a financial information system will also come into being. Services can be delivered without wasting time on paperwork and information can be secured from anywhere on the network”, said Dr Ramachandran.
