Transforming Government since 2001
Empowering women to access online e-services, the city-based St Teresa’s College in association with Federal Bank has launched e-Jaalakam. The facility will enable women to receive various e-services of the government.

Launching the project, P.H.Kurian, Principal Secretary in the State IT Department, said Kerala intends to become a digital State by 2016 and the government had taken steps to computerise many government services ahead of achieving this target.

Kerala is the only State that has initiated various e-service programmes such as Akshaya and IT@school to address the digital divide. The government now intends to carry out e-service programmes in Local Self-government departments, he said.

Appreciating the social outreach of students, Hiby Eden, MLA, suggested increasing the number of Akshaya centres in the district. District Collector Sheik Pareeth stressed the need to popularise such social justice schemes to enable the common man to be aware of free online government services such as healthcare allowances and free medical treatments.

K.I. Varghese, General Manager, Federal Bank, offered complete support for the project. Raju Hormis, Head of CSR in Federal Bank, offered assistance in implementing the project in other parts of the district.
