Transforming Government since 2001
As part of its e-governance initiative, the government has decided to set up Maharashtra Information Technology Cadre comprising 500 state employees.

Employees proficient in information technology and handling computers will spearhead the initiative.

A circular issued Wednesday said 5-10 per cent of the existing administrative staff would constitute the cadre.

"The Centre as well as the state are taking various e-governance initiatives. To ensure efficient implementation of the initiatives, the government had been contemplating a special cadre of officials with an IT background. It has now been decided to set up Maharashtra Information Technology Virtual Cadre," it said.

Of the 5,456 employees in Mantralaya, 5-10 per cent would be drafted into the cadre. Employees applying for the posts will be selected by a panel. Selected employees will get 10 per cent of basic salary as allowance during their three-year stint in the cadre.

The cadre will implement e-governance initiatives in their departments.
