The centre will be run in Public-Private Partnership (PPP)mode by the State Government and Odisha Trust of Technical Education and Training (OTTET).
The telemedicine activities will include consultation for preliminary diagnosis, expert opinion, scheduling appointment for hospital visits, pre-surgical investigation, post surgical follow-up and patient counselling.
Acharya said recently some telemedicine centres were made operational in the State and hoped that health services would be extended to the remote villages through the telemedicine networks. Government envisages to shortly connect all peripheral health centres with reputed medical colleges and hospitals in the country, he added.
OTTET sources said the centre is equipped with modern technology for tele-ophthalmology, tele-pathology and tele-radiology.
Blood samples would be collected at the Panchayat level by trained technicians and the reports would be obtained online using tele-pathology setup at the district level. Moreover, patients using tele-consultation facility and video conferencing could interact with medical experts.
Gradually, facilities for CT scan, MRI scan, diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, ECG and diabetic retinopathy will be added.
On the occasion, RGH was connected to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science, Lucknow. Nodal Officer of the Institute Dr SK Mishra said Odisha has taken the global lead in telemedicine and creation of People Health Record which even USA is thinking to start today.
OTTET managing trustee KN Bhagat exuded confidence to instal telemedicine centres at all district headquarters hospitals by July. Those centres will cover all Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres and sub-centres by the end of 2014 with a total investment of 6,000 crores. Around one lakh entrepreneurs will be engaged under the telemedicine project.
