Kerala University will implement biometric attendance marking system for its non-teaching staff starting April 2013. The initiative is part of the State Government directive to implement biometric punching system for recording the attendance of the staff in all universities, among selected government departments.

Kerala University Registrar-in-charge V Suresh Babu said that at least four machines would be installed as part of the project. ‘’The facility will be applicable for the around 1,000 employees on the Senate House and Kariavattom campuses of the university, besides university libraries,’’ he said.

The new punching system will be run on a trial basis for the first two months during which the present system of recording attendance will be maintained. Keltron will supply and install the equipment. The computer centre of the university will monitor the day-to-day functioning of the new system.
