With the launch of Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) at two other locations in Bengaluru (one in Mangalore) issuing and renewals of passports have become faster. The on-going reforms in delivery of passport services are envisioned under the Passport Seva Project - a citizen-centric e-governance initiative as part of the National E-Governance Plan. The pilot project was launched in Bengaluru and Chandigarh in May and August 2010 respectively and became a huge hit. More than 30 lakh passport related services have been rendered under the new system.
Passport walk-ins
The Passport Mela initiated by the Ministry of External Affairs in order to meet high demand for passport services has been a huge success. To meet the increasing demand, Regional Passport Office in Bengaluru has initiated a walk-in campaign from July 2 to 31 for applicants where tokens to 200 people are issued on a first-come-first-serve basis. Around 2,000 people were witnessed at the PSV’s and RPO during the Passport Mela. The special campaign is aimed to help people who have failed to get an appointment. The campaign is only for issuing fresh passports and for reissuing passports and not for Tatkal aspirants. The various passport services at RPO and Passport Service Kendras are:
