The hub, which is based on the data collected under the Unique Identification Authority of India's Aadhar scheme, will help in the effective implementation of social security programmes in the State, according to Dr D.S. Ravindran, Chief Executive Officer of E-Governance Cell of the Karnataka Government.
Pilot work
In an informal chat with Business Line on the sidelines of a workshop on Aadhar here on Friday, he said: “We are starting the pilot work in Mysore and Tumkur districts. The framework for the hub will be ready by March 2012. The establishment of Aadhar will help give a shape to it.”
Asked about the reasons for selecting these two districts for the pilot project, he said 97 per cent of people in these two districts have enrolled under Aadhar scheme.
The work on the enrolment in Mysore and Tumkur began in October 2010.
Economic status
Basically, the data collected in Aadhar will be linked to this data hub for the effective implementation of social security schemes.
The major services provided by the State Government will be made Aadhar-enabled through this back-end database.
He explained this with the example of a housing scheme for poor.
He said the economic status of the beneficiary plays a major role in the allotment of houses under such schemes.
Benefit
Sometimes people, who are not eligible for such schemes, also get that benefit.
However, the Karnataka Resident Data Hub will provide authenticate information on the economic status of the individual along with other details.
If the beneficiary is already having a house, the data hub will help the authorities in eliminating the person from the list.
Stating that Karnataka is the only State which is thinking on the lines of establishing a resident data hub, he said the data generated in Aadhar will help in the effective functioning of the data hub.
