Chief Minister congratulated the Excise and Taxation Department for launching the e-enabled Web Portal to facilitate businessmen of the State with electronic payment of VAT and adding a new chapter into the e-governance endeavours of the State Government. He said that initially the facility would be available to the traders having TIN Numbers issued by the Department of Excise and Taxation and having their accounts in the State Bank of India and Punjab National Banks. He said that with the launch of the facility, VAT payers would be able to deposit their payments electronically upto 9.00 PM every day and the payment made after that would be accounted for on the next date. He said that it was internet enabled operation at reduced cost based upon citizen-centric perspective for improved convenience of the people. He said that the facility would enable the businessman to make payment from any part of the world through email and save them from all hassles they had been experiencing in depositing the VAT etc. in the respective offices in person. He said that Department would soon be launching e-return service for the benefit of the traders.
Prof. Dhumal said that IT enabled service were the need of the hour and a must to keep pace with the modern technological advancements which would save time and money of the businessmen. He said that the State Government had approved 3,366 Common Service Centre 'Lok Mitra Kendra' to provide people various services through them at their door steps and 2,667 centres had come into operation. He said that such centres would be instrumental in delivering people various services at their door steps for which they had to visit different offices to procure documents etc. and get their requirements fulfilled. He said that the Centres would be functioning under integrated systems for effective monitoring and unified view for quick response. He said that new procedure was simple, manageable, transparent and efficient to the tax payers having provision of e-Services to facilitate them in complying with the legal provisions. He said that it was an effective step towards the cost effective tax administration by saving efforts and automating routine jobs. He hoped that the facility would be beneficial to the department as well, which would get automatically generated compiled data of the tax collection.
Shri Bhim Sen, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Excise and Taxation welcomed the Chief Minister and said that it was an endeavour to facilitate the traders and department equally in collection of tax payments. He said that the system would not only bring about efficiency in the functioning but also make the tax collection transparent.
Shri Jagdish Sharma, Commissioner, Excise and Taxation proposed vote of thanks and apprised him of the activities being initiated by the department to facilitate the traders. He informed the Chief Minister that about 36,000 TIN numbers had been issued to the traders and remaining would also be issued the same by the end of current financial year.
