The e-governance plan, which at its initiation focused mostly on the development of common service centres (CSCs) and internet penetration, has found a new point of attention. Mobile phones will be used for delivery of key services in segments such as utility services, education, emission controls, and agriculture.
"The department is mulling the inclusion of new application in e-governance. Mobile technology, the future technology, is easy to develop and implement and its low cost of development will be our area of focus," said the IT minister.
In order to further this aim, the state government will take assistance from the Bengal Engineering and Science University, Calcutta University and Jadavpur University, who will enter into endeavours, coming up with hardware and designing of chips.
