Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar has said that 60,000 common services centres (CSCs) have been set up in the country so far as part of the national e-governance plan. The remaining 40,000 CSCs of the targeted one lakh would come up in a year. The infrastructure for them was being built, he told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of the Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) here on Saturday.

The CSCs provide services in the areas of e-governance, education, health, telemedicine, entertainment and private matters through cost effective video, voice and data content.

Inaugurating the CIPS earlier, Mr. Chandrasekhar said great changes in public reform ‘silently' swept across the country.

This was possible due to contribution of officers to innovations in public delivery systems. The focus of next Civil Services Day on April 21 would be on replication of innovations across States and departments.

Citing an example, Mr. Chandrasekhar said all the 194 entries for Prime Minister's award in public administration last year showed that a great deal of innovations were taking place in States. Ultimately, only nine entries were selected for awards.
