Even though, the online system is being used by the RTO just to give appointments to those seeking learning licenses, in the near future it plans to upgrade this system for the online payment of road tax.
"At present, we have provided the online system just to give appointments to those who want to get learning licenses. They just have to visit our official website and seek an appointment. After that, people are sent a mail regarding the appointment and they have to get the printout and show it for the appointment. The benefit they get is that they do not have to wait in the long queues if they show this printout to our concerned officials, who guide them to complete further procedures. At present, we get around 10 per cent of the total number of applications for learning licenses through online mode," Pune RTO Chandrakant Kharatmal said.
"This not only saves people's time, but also helps us keep in check the agents and touts operating on our premises," he added.
Secondly, the Regional Transport Office has also started a system of registering a complaint against the autorickshaw drivers through e-mail.
"Besides the phone complaint system, in which people can either call or send SMS, we have given online complaint register system and we keep receiving complaints regarding them regularly," Kharatmal said.
