T A Pai Management Institute [TAPMI] launched the eGovernance Programme for executives in collaboration with the National Institute for Smart Government [NISG] recently. The programme was inaugurated at T.A. Pai Management Institute - Manipal New Campus. The guests included senior leaders from the corporate world and the academia.

In his welcome address, Dr. Saji Gopinath - Director, TAPMI welcomed the guests and extended his whole-hearted support in terms of provision of campus facilities to participants. The introduction to the programme was given by Prof Harish P Iyer - Co-ordinator eGPX. He spoke of the journey of eGPX, the commitment of TAPMI towards it and also the passion of the participants towards the eGPX programme. According to him, the important factor in selection of candidates was their commitment to a worthy cause. Furthermore, he stated that it was not just career progress or financial growth that inspired participants, but their passion towards learning about ICT enabled eGovernance.

Dr H S Ballal - Pro Chancellor Manipal University presided over the function. In his inaugural address he gave an overview to all the participants of Manipal, as an International University township. Dr. Ballal also spoke of T. A. Pai's dream of having a world class management college in Manipal.

The key note address was delivered by Prof Subhash Bhatnagar, Senior Professor IIMA. Prof Bhatnagar with his passion for ICT enabled development and e-Governance had visualized and given shape to the educational programme, eGPX. He spoke of the approach to the eGovernance Programme and its relevance in modern times. He appreciated the efforts put in by all the stakeholders to launch the programme, but reminded everyone that this was only the threshold to the real challenges facing the team that had set out to shape e-Governance professionals for the country.

Muniram, Director DIT, which supported the programme with sponsorships, explained the government's perspective on NeGP. He also cited the financial implication for government employees who will be taking this certification and expected the government employees undertaking this course of studies [eGPX Programme] to bring about change and transformation in their respective State departments as well. Navin Agrawal - Executive Director, KPMG and P V Sreenath - V.P Govt. Practice, IBM spoke of the Industry perspective on eGPX. As professionals committed to e-governance sector, they expressed the desire that this programme would be a success and help fill the gap of professionals available in this area.

Piyush Gupta - GM NISG, explained the importance of NeGP and spoke of NISG and its active role in the e-Governance Programme. He too expressed his satisfaction that the programme had taken off after much struggle and hard work and wished it would be successful in its mission and objective. Prof Jaba M Gupta - Chairperson eGPX, TAPMI was the MC of the programme and gave the Vote of Thanks at the end. She thanked the invited guests and the Director and Deans, the faculty and staff members for the support they had given to the pioneering programme.

There was an orientation program for participants in the afternoon. Participants introduced themselves and spoke of their expectations from the programme. They also interacted with TAPMI faculty. The participants hailed from states in the North, South, East and West, and were largely sponsored candidates. However, about one third of the class consists of candidates from the private sector. The sponsoring State Governments included Kerala, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Mizoram, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
