Rural areas will now have access to official information regarding services provided by the government and the affairs of the state, commerce and industry.

Panchayat and Rural Development Department Principal Secretary M N Roy said, “Our state is the first to sign the master service agreement, which is a part of the national e-governance plan.”

Kiosks will be set up in a public-private partnership. An agreement has been signed with SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited and Wipro Infotech Limited. 4,937 Common Service Centres (CSC), called ‘Tathya Mitra’, will be set up in 14 districts across Bengal, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore, Bankura, Howrah and Hooghly.

Roy saidthat, “The CSCs will have internet connectvity and will provide e-governance, and other commercial services to the rural population.” The kiosks are planned to be in place in 12 months.
