Low cost products could facilitate faster spread of telemedicine in developing countries and India is poised for a ‘big growth’ in the sector, Michael Nerlich, President, International Society for Telemedicine and e-Health said.

Addressing reporters through teleconference from Regensburg University in Germany, he said low cost products could promote telemedicine in a big way.

Telemedicine and e-Health had an important role in providing quality health care to the people all over the world, he said.

With ISRO providing the back-up network, the telemedicine sector poised for a big growth in India.

The 12th International Conference of the society would be held at Chennai from November 2. The two-day conference would bring together global experts in telemedicine to highlight the cutting edge technology, Dr K Ganapathy, organising secretary of the conference said.

Practical problems faced by rural India would be the focus of discussions during the two-day meet, he said.
