Transforming Government since 2001
Online registration for issue of Sanitary Import Permit to import livestock/livestock products to India has begun today.

The Sanitary Import Permit Information System (SIPS) was inaugurated by Ms. Charusheela Sohoni, Secretary for Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries. This system will not only enable the importers to submit applications electronically but will also provide information on the status of their applications. Prescribed proforma of the application, user manual, harmonized system of codes of livestock products, feed-back from importers/users etc. can also be accessed electronically.

The SIPS can be accessed on website dahd.nic.in or dms.nic.in/SIP.

As this system would facilitate online filing of applications, quick disposal and monitoring, it will bring about transparency and user in e-governance in this area.

Presently, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries has been issuing Sanitary Import Permits as per the Livestock Importation Act under which the applications are accepted through post or courier. It may be noted that the Livestock Importation Act of 1898 (Act No 9 of 1898), as amended by the Livestock Importation (Amendment) Act, 2001 empowers the Central Government to regulate, restrict or prohibit the import into India of any livestock/livestock products, which may be affected by infectious or contagious diseases.
