In this age of information technology, the Madhya Pradesh Government has done a pioneer work enabling the common people to avail the services of the government and to provide better facilities for promotion of trade, business and industry to boost economic progress by introducing the concept of e-governance in the day to day functioning of the government in the state. With this, Madhya Pradesh has joined the league of front ranking states including Kerala, Delhi, Gujarat and Goa in the fast emerging area of e-governance. This has been revealed in a countrywide survey carried out recently by a magazine entitled "Data Quest". Madhya Pradesh has been included among states providing better e-governance services in the primary as well as secondary sector of the economy. The magazine opines though all the states in India have accorded priority to giving good governance in their agendas yet very few states could fulfil their targets. A number of states are well behind with slow progress.

The "Data Quest" magazine listed 18 states out of 28 states and seven union territories on the basis of human index for the survey. Survey work included government services and their benefits to people and corporations through e-governance. Madhya Pradesh has been a pioneer state in implementation of e-governance in the country. Madhya Pradesh has been adjudged best in providing health services, land sale / purchase deal, through e-governance and second in vehicle registration, land registration works. People of Madhya Pradesh could have saved more time in these works than any other states through the e-governance. The state also tops in execution of rules, procedures and fee relating arrangements through e-governance.

Similarly, Madhya Pradesh also occupies top position in rendering pubic utility services to the citizens in the areas such as municipal corporation, land (revenue), income tax and law through e-governance whereas the e-governance arrangement made by the Department of Commercial Taxes and Urban bodies in their respective institutions in respect of areas of trade and commerce are the best in the country. Likewise, Madhya Pradesh has been given first rank in the country in the survey for making proper arrangement to provide the facility of e-payment to the corporate sector. While the works relating to education, transport through e-governance secured third tank in the country. Moreover, works pertaining to water utility, land property, e-payment and monitoring of people's application and transparency regarding decision and execution got second rank in the country. Madhya Pradesh has also secured second position after Andhra Pradesh in providing incentive, subsidy to the corporate sector for electricity and water supply works.

It may be mentioned that the present progress in information and communication is based on e-governance. E-governance apprises the people of the government priorities to the people facilitating easy flow of services to citizens.
