The Ministry of Energy,Communications and Multimedia, has proposed two more laws on security namely the Electronic Government Activities Act and Electronic Transaction Act which can encompass all the electronic transactions in Malaysia. The ministry's parliament secretary Chai Kwang Chye said Thursday that both laws are currently being drafted by the Attorney General's Chambers and is expected to be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat next year. "It is still in the process of being drafted. So the details are not ready. We hope to get it by next year," he told reporters after officiating the Second Asean Internet Trust Symposium here.

Chai represented the Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia Datuk Amar Leo Moggie.

The two new laws were in line with the government's effort in promoting e-government and flagship applications under the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) programme such as e-procurement.

He said that the two new laws would be able to instil confidence and trust among Malaysians and foreigners in using on-line medium for commercial transactions or for government matters.

"It (the new laws) will enhance and encourage electronic on-line activities, reduce the abuse of Internet usage," he said.

The ministry is also in the process of reviewing more then 739 acts and sections related with conversion to e-government across 22 ministries, he said.

"If there are needs to amend some of the rules (to enhance the growth of e-commerce) we will and if there are needs to fine tune them, we will recommend fine tuning," Chai said.
