Teachers in Sabah have been reminded to discard the old techniques of teaching and adopt the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

State education director Jame Alip made the call at the closing of the Third Technology Education Conference at the Federal Building here yesterday.

Jame appealed to teachers to adopt new techniques to improve and enhance teaching and learning.

“We are now living in a technologically advanced world, so we need to be creative and innovative to ensure our teaching will be well-accepted by the students.

“This conference is important because teachers will be exposed to an interesting method of improving the learning process in the classroom through research. Research is important to give more space to the teachers to improve their teaching method,” he said.

Jame added that the latest innovations in telecommunication is one of the best examples of how the teachers can improve something that is impossible into something useful.

“Tens of years ago, we never thought of SMS and the handphone, but now we are living with it. That is why we need to be creative and do something to encourage our students to do the same.

“We need to lead our students to be quality human capital because they are the future of the country,” he said.

Jame’s speech was delivered by the state Education Department’s head of academic management sector, Dr Mohd Kasim Ibrahim.

A total of 450 teachers attended the one-day conference which had 16 modules presented by experienced teachers from all over Sabah.

Also present at the closing event was the organizing chairman, Ahamad Jais.
