The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry's InfoSTI pilot project receives encouraging response and has helped to enhance skill in information and communication technology (ICT) among rural residents.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili said this was reflected through the participation of local residents in the project that was carried out in Kota Marudu, Sabah, and Petrajaya, Sarawak, since 2009.

He said a total of 45 trainees were trained through the 'Training-Of-Trainer' (TOT) programme under the InfoSTI project in Kota Marudu.

"A total of 3,328 local residents have attended the community class held at the InfoSTI centre there," he said in his speech at the launch of the third InfoSTI project by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob at Nenasi here today.

The text of Ongkili's speech was read by his deputy, Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

Ongkili also said that at the InfoSTI in Petrajaya, 56 TOT volunteers were trained and 3,868 residents attended the community class that was held.

"Overall, the InfoSTI project receives encouraging response from people of all ages," he added.

Meanwhile, Fadillah told a media conference after the function that the InfoSTI project would be expanded nationwide, especially the rural areas.
