Abdullah Launches Identification Card For Security Guards

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Tuesday launched identification cards for security guards as part of efforts to upgrade the quality of their service and enhance the status of the security services industry in the country. The cards would be issued by the Home Ministry once they had completed a basic training programme in providing security service conducted by the Malaysian Security Guard Services Association, the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister said.

He said the identity card (KPPK) would instill public confidence in the security guards and earn them the trust of the companies which employed them.

"This is a another project under the E-Government," Datuk Seri Abdullah said when launching the KPPK at the ministry's multipurpose hall here.

He said the basic training programme was important as it would prepare them to face any danger in the course of their duties.

The training would also enhance their standard of discipline in the course of providing security service.

Only those who really qualified in the various aspects of security service would be issued with the card which would have security features, making it difficult to falsify, he added.

Speaking at the function, Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Aseh Che Mat said the applicant would have to wait for three days to get his card and a processing fee of RM10 would be charged.

There are about 150,000 security guards in the country, serving with 250 security service firms.
