While in the field, inspectors will input their inspection results and the information will be uploaded to the department's database in real-time. The application also offers an off-line mode that can be used when wireless coverage is unavailable; updates are saved to the inspector's mobile device and uploaded to the agency database once a connection is reestablished or when the inspector returns to the office. The county will also implement an application that allows users to pull information from the county's GIS database to automate map analysis and speed up the review process.
The applications offer field inspectors additional functionality to optimize their travel time. Leveraging information in the County's GIS database, inspectors can analyze a list of addresses and calculate the most efficient travel path, complete with written directions and an inspection route map. All of this information can then be downloaded to the Accela Wireless client device so inspectors have an efficient travel route for the day.
