Transforming Government since 2001
The Commonwealth of Kentucky officially unveiled a new state portal today (http://kentucky.gov) that provides citizens and businesses with a fresh, updated design with additional online services. The new portal design will allow citizens and businesses to interact more efficiently with state government.

Kentucky.gov is the Commonwealth's official Web site and provides a gateway for Kentuckians to reach the government information and services they need. A new service now allows citizens to sign up to receive news releases from state government agencies, based upon criteria they provide. The news releases are delivered directly by e-mail, making staying up-to-date on government news almost effortless. In addition, the new site features an eDemocracy section that provides federal, state, and local government information, including details on elections, voting and participating in the government process. Another new section, the Local Government Resource Center, is devoted to information about Kentucky's numerous cities and counties.

Kentucky.gov also has a new look and feel. The banner images now rotate, allowing the site to reflect Kentucky's natural beauty and current events more effectively. The state brand, Kentucky Unbridled Spirit, is also featured in the new design.

Although much has changed, the foundation of Kentucky.gov remains the same. The portal continues to provide access to a wide variety of online services, nearly 100 in all. You can purchase hunting and fishing licenses, make plans to visit one of Kentucky's state parks, track legislation as it makes its way through the general assembly, or renew a professional license, among other things.

"It is an important improvement that Kentuckians now have the opportunity to conduct business electronically with Kentucky state government," said Governor Ernie Fletcher. "The state's newly improved Web site makes Kentucky even more accessible to all areas of the Commonwealth. In some cases, citizens no longer have to travel many miles to transact business with state government."

Kentucky.gov continues to use intentions-based navigation, which makes it easier for citizens to find the information they need. The site also makes use of other powerful aides to assist the public in finding information on the site. A Google search tool located at the top right of the page provides a familiar way to search the site. Live Help online customer service is also offered online from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (EST) Monday through Friday.

"I encourage all Kentuckians to take a moment to visit state government's new online home," said Governor Fletcher. "We are committed to continuing our efforts to make Kentucky state government more accessible to the citizens of the Commonwealth."
