CMS, an agency of Health and Human Services Department, will require certain infrastructure commonality among the contractors, which will compete for task orders for integrated operations, common reporting and oversight at the enterprise level. The data centers will be geographically dispersed, CMS said in its posting on Friday. Services will include managed application hosting, Medicare fee-for-service claims processing, telecommunications, enterprise dashboards and data center support.
The agency anticipates building databases holding about 180T of Medicare health care data over the next five years, with stringent privacy and security conditions. CMS processes and retains the largest volume of health care data files in the world and disseminates 40 billion records annually, more data than any other federal agency or private company, the agency said
The procurement will run up to 10 years, including a one-year base period and nine one-year options. CMS is considering whether to make multiple indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity awards.
Potential bidders should submit comments by April 14. CMS plans to release the request for proposals at the end of this month.
