Transforming Government since 2001
The City of Evansville says new computer software will allow it to offer new e-government services to businesses and residents.

Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel says some of the services residents will now be able to apply for online will include building permits, commercial site reviews and contractor licenses. Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and Rob Bennett, President and Founder of Municipal Software, held a joint press conference this morning to demonstrate computer software that will allow automation of multiple City services. The Board of Public Works today approved the purchase of the software.

“The CityView application provided by Municipal Software was the unanimous choice of our review committee because it is easy to use and yet flexible enough to grow with us,” said Mayor Weinzapfel. “This software will help us to streamline operations by providing new e-government services both internally and to the residents of Evansville.”

Initially, CityView will affect the City-County Building Commission, Neighborhood Inspection Services and the Area Plan Commission. Residents will be able to apply on-line for building permits, commercial site reviews, inspections and contractor licenses. Employees will now have an automated work order management tool and a complaint tracking system.

“Thanks to this purchase, our office will be able to improve response time to citizen concerns, provide rapid communication between inspectors and contractors, communicate information on specific projects between governmental agencies and reduce staff time spent on paperwork,” said Building Commissioner Roger Lehman.

Other City departments and operations will soon become involved with the CityView software. Chief Information Officer Matt Arvay said, “One of the main reasons for selecting CityView was the fact that it offers both a quick solution and a set of application development tools that will give us the power to develop, customize and maintain existing and future applications ourselves without having to consult outside firms. I look forward to working with other City offices in the coming year to improve their delivery of services.”

Rob Bennett said, “This purchase illustrates Evansville’s commitment to lowering costs while at the same time delivering the best service possible to their citizens. I know residents will appreciate the online access to information, the quick response they’ll get from city hall and the fact that the city can offer such services despite all to familiar budget constraints.”
