Transforming Government since 2001
Oklahoma is giving its citizens fast access to valuable weather reports and disaster preparedness information during emergencies, thanks to a new Web site developed by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management.

The Web site, which is available at www.oem.OK.gov or through the state's official Web site at www.OK.gov, gives agency employees the flexibility to distribute timely information in the event of a disaster. Agency staff can use a Web-based administrative tool to create new Web pages or news releases from any computer with Internet access. The administrative tool was designed to speed the release of valuable information to the public outside of a traditional office location. In addition to the Web site, the public or emergency managers at any level of government can search a database of training events offered through the Department of Emergency Management or the Office of Homeland Security. Emergency managers may also submit emergency management or Community Emergency Response Team events for inclusion in the training calendar.

"As another severe weather season draws near, we are reminded how essential it is to keep the public informed," said Albert Ashwood, Director of the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management. "This new Web site lets us keep the public informed in a quick, efficient manner."

The Web site is the result of a partnership between the Department of Emergency Management and OK.gov, Oklahoma's official Web site that is managed by eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV).

"The Emergency Management Web site is modeled after OK.gov," said Lisa Counts, OK.gov general manager. "By providing simple navigation and access to new content, the Department of Emergency Management and OK.gov are working to serve the public through effective means."
