But of the 10, only onethe requirement for a search function on every public Web site or main entry pointis truly new to agencies. The rest are mandates drawn from existing laws and regulations such as the E-Government Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act and OMB Circular A-130. In a memo to agency chiefs, deputy director for management Clay Johnson said the policies would promote a more citizen-centered government.
The other nine items require agencies to:
- Maintain dissemination inventories and schedules, and to post that information online
- Ensure information quality
- Establish and enforce agencywide linking policies
- Communicate with citizens and state and local governments to meet their information needs
- Use .gov, .mil or .fed.us domains
- Implement security controls so information cannot be tampered with or private data disclosed
- Ensure private information is protected
- Maintain accessibility for persons with disabilities
- Manage electronic records.
OMB expects prompt and orderly implementation of the policies, Johnson noted.
