Transforming Government since 2001
Hiring the right person is a challenge for all businesses. To make the process a bit easier, the Arkansas State Police recently introduced an online service that delivers comprehensive criminal background checks to employers in a matter of seconds.

"Conducting a comprehensive background check on a potential employee is a smart decision for any business," says Steve Dozier with the Arkansas State Police. "Employers and staffing services should carefully consider their choice of a background check provider they use to screen employees." To accommodate businesses seeking the most comprehensive background checks, the Arkansas State Police recently introduced an online search service through the state's official Web site at www.Arkansas.gov. The new online criminal background check system is offered to employers and professional licensing boards.

Previously, employers who performed Arkansas background checks had to do so by filling out a notarized application form and submitting it in the mail.

The only background check system that links directly to the Arkansas State Police database is the one offered online at www.Arkansas.gov. Businesses should beware of "cheaper checks" or other services that claim to find a person's background but never tap into the resources of the Arkansas State Police. As a result, some businesses may pay for an incomplete background check.

"If I were a business owner, I would pay an extra few dollars to get the most accurate and up-to-date background check through the Arkansas State Police," continued Dozier. "We've heard of unfortunate instances involving incomplete background checks through third-party vendors who clear a prospective employee for a client when the person was actually a convicted felon."

Online background checks are available for $22.00. If the employer is required by Arkansas law to perform the background check, the total cost will remain at $20.00.
