Virginia has been awarded a third place ranking by the Center for Digital Government in its 2004 Digital State Survey. The ranking continues the upward trend the Commonwealth has enjoyed over the last two years. After finishing in the bottom half of the rankings for several years, Virginia improved to sixth place in 2002. The survey, now in its sixth year, is generally viewed as the most respected study of information technology applications as it rewards states that use IT strategically in running 21st century government.
"Virginia continues to move up in the e-government rankings," said Gov. Mark R. Warner in a prepared statement. "Our efforts have positioned the Commonwealth to not only achieve significant cost savings, but to improve the efficiency of vital services and give taxpayers a better return on their investment."
