Transforming Government since 2001
Obtaining the criminal history of employees is now easier for all Arkansas employers. A new online criminal background check service allows employers and professional licensing boards to instantly access state criminal records through a secure electronic search of the Arkansas State police database. This new service, which is available through the state's official Web site at www.Arkansas.gov, gives employers and professional licensing boards the ability to conduct background checks instantly. Previously, employers who performed background checks in Arkansas had to complete a notarized application form and submit it via U.S. mail. While the offline process often took up to three weeks to complete, the online service provides immediate results.

Since launching in May, more than 2,000 background checks have been conducted online.

"We are pleased to offer criminal record checks online, which is an important step in our commitment to provide efficient delivery of government services," said Interim Director Lieutenant Colonel Steve Dozier of the Arkansas State Police.

Employers may set up convenient monthly billing and pay with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or electronic funds transfer through Arkansas.gov's secure payment server. The cost per record search is $22.00 or $20.00 for those employers required by Arkansas law to perform the background check. The search can be performed in less than five minutes and users can print out the background information report immediately.

This new service was built and managed through a partnership between the Arkansas State Police and the Information Network of Arkansas, which manages the official state Web portal.
