Transforming Government since 2001
Multiagency Web Site at www.truckingKS.org Receives a Pioneer Award from the E-Gov Institute

eGovernment innovation continues to have a home in Kansas. Two weeks ago, the Kansas trucking portal (www.truckingKS.org) was named one of the top 15 government technology projects in the nation. The E-Gov Institute serves as an educational resource to those providing electronic government services. More than 160 federal, state, and local electronic government projects were reviewed by the E-Gov Institute's Government Solution Center, and Kansas was one of two states to receive a Pioneer Award.

"This award is another acknowledgement of the innovative services Kansas agencies are providing to citizens and businesses through accessKansas," said Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. "The state is embracing technology to make government processes more efficient and convenient."

The first-of-its-kind trucking portal was launched in July 2001 and is a collaborative effort between the Kansas Department of Revenue, the Kansas Department of Transportation, the Kansas Corporation Commission, and accessKansas, the state's official Web site (www.accessKansas.org).

The system allows motor carriers to visit one Web portal to locate and quickly meet the requirements of several agencies. Many of these transactions, including International Fuel Tax Agreement quarterly filings and single state authority renewals, can be completed entirely online from submitting data and paying fees to printing credentials. The Kansas motor carrier portal now offers seven interactive services and has processed more than 32,000 online transactions since launching.

"While other states offer some of these individual services to motor carriers, to our knowledge Kansas is the only state to combine these services into a single comprehensive location," said Joan Wagnon, Secretary of the Kansas Department of Revenue.

"We congratulate our agency partners on winning the prestigious Pioneer Award," said Jim Hollingsworth, executive director of the Information Network of Kansas, Inc. "Thanks to the collaborative efforts of several state agencies, the Kansas trucking portal continues to deliver results to motor carriers."

Kansas trucking portal representatives will accept the award in June at the Government Solutions Forum in Washington D.C.
