A bill to establish an "e-government" system financed by fees on electronic users of public records is heading to the House for consideration.
The bill was approved 10-2 by the House Appropriations and Finance Committee and goes to the House. The committee had tabled the bill the day before Representative John Heaton of Carlsbad "the Democrat who sponsored the measure "says he and other supporters worked "unbelievably hard" to try to address objections to the legislation, including those raised by insurance companies.
The New Mexico Press Association and the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government oppose the bill.
