The program tailored for would-be CIOs is accepting applications through Sept. 10. The CGCIO is the only training program of its kind, according to a university press release.
The program, which will run from October to July, will accept 25 senior-level IT managers in government and teach them through “presentations, group exercises, networking, peer learning and a capstone project.” The program is partnered with the national Consortium for State and Local Government Technology Leadership Development.
Established in 2008, the consortium includes the University of North Carolina’s Center for Public Technology, the Florida Institute of Government at Florida State University, and the Public Technology Institute in partnership with Rutgers University. More than 600 public-sector IT leaders have participated in the CGCIO program since 2005, according to Harrisburg University.
“The role of the IT executive within government is quickly changing and expanding,” the CGCIO program’s website reads. “Just knowing how technology works is no longer sufficient for those responsible for leading IT organizations. Public-sector IT executives are expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of areas such as communications, finance, human resources, policy making, management practices and how to effectively connect the technology to the business needs.”
