Transforming Government since 2001
According to a new report from INPUT (input.com), a market intelligence firm for companies that conduct business with the U.S. government, outsourcing is the fastest growing technology segment within the U.S. federal government. The company said today that U.S. federal government spending on outsourcing will increase from $8.5 billion during the 2003 fiscal year to over $15.5 billion by the fiscal year of 2008.

"A huge percentage of the federal IT workforce is reaching retirement age within the next five years giving federal agencies little choice but to pursue outsourcing to meet the technology needs of initiatives like e-government and information sharing in defense of the homeland," said Lauren Jones Shu, Senior Analyst of Federal Market Analysis at INPUT.

A recent example the report cites is the Transportation Security Administration outsourcing their entire IT infrastructure needs to Unisys in a deal potentially valued at over $1 billion.
