Transforming Government since 2001
Alabama's hunters now have more time to spend outdoors this hunting season, thanks to a new Internet service from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Hunters participating in the 2003 season can purchase their licenses online from www.alabama.gov, the state's official Web site. A wide range of license types are offered online, including resident and non-resident hunting licenses and Alabama lifetime hunting licenses. The service was made possible through a partnership between the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Alabama Interactive, the Montgomery-based subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq:EGOV) that provides eGovernment Internet solutions for the state. "We're excited about the online system's convenience and the time savings it offers Alabama's hunters and anglers," said M. Barnett Lawley, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. "As we entered the 2003-2004 hunting season, the state had one simple goal -- to ensure that buying hunting and fishing licenses in Alabama is simple and trouble-free. Our online licensing service has made this a reality."

Purchasing a license through the online system is easy and takes about five minutes. Users only need to complete a short online identification form, select their license privileges, pay by Visa or MasterCard, and print their license. Within minutes, a hunter can have his or her license in hand. The process also allows hunters to participate in federal services such as the Harvest Information Program (HIP). As an added convenience, hunters are no longer limited to purchasing their licenses during business hours. The system is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week, eliminating headaches and missed opportunities.

"It's one less thing that I have to worry about," said Rob Hutchins, an Alabamian who enjoys hunting dove and deer. "I've been planning to go hunting this weekend, but wouldn't have had the chance to go out and buy my license. Since I could purchase it online this year, I'm ready to go."

In addition to hunting licenses, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources also offers state fishing licenses through the same Web site. "Anglers, too, can take advantage of the same convenience enjoyed by Alabama's hunters when it comes to purchasing their licenses online," said Commissioner Lawley.
