City's Fire Department Utilizes New Wireless Technology to Streamline Their Inspection Process

Accela, Inc., the leading provider of government enterprise management solutions, announced today that the Temecula, California Fire Department has launched Accela Wireless, a software application that facilitates direct, real-time access to data in an agency's database from a mobile device in the field. The Department is responsible for performing fire safety inspections of commercial businesses, new constructions, and improved buildings to ensure fire safe environments for all citizens of Temecula. Temecula has been using Accela for over ten years to centralize and automate its land and permit management activities. With the addition of Accela Wireless, the Fire Department now powers its inspection teams with mobile technology to shift their many daily tasks from the office to the field. Fire inspectors are equipped with Fujitsu Tablet PCs that allow them to remotely access their daily inspection schedules and locations. While in the field, inspectors can input their inspection results and update the agency database in real-time. Administrative staff are freed from the task of manually entering inspection results at the end of the day, thereby reducing the likelihood of data entry errors and speeding up the overall process.

"As one of the fastest growing cities in Southwest Riverside County, our ability to leverage mobile technology has allowed us to do more with our existing resources," stated Jim McBride, Fire Marshal for the City of Temecula. "This increase in efficiency allows the Department to better serve the needs of the community."

With the successful launch of Accela Wireless for the Fire Department, the City will next focus on implementing the solution for inspection officers in the Code Enforcement Department. These inspectors are responsible for enforcing County and state codes relating to parking, zoning, signs, abandoned vehicles, health and housing codes.

"Temecula is an excellent example of how Accela's end-to-end technology allows us to be a total solution provider for government agencies of all sizes," states Robert P. Lee, Accela's president and CEO. "Our solutions are customizable to meet the varying needs of every employee, putting them in command of integrated and intelligent enterprise information from any perspective."

Located in southwest Riverside County, the population of Temecula is expanding rapidly, experiencing over 60% growth in the last thirteen years. The City joins several other jurisdictions in California who are already utilizing Accela's e-government solutions. These include: Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Sacramento, Alameda County, Irvine, Placer County, San Bernardino County, Santa Barbara, and Riverside County.
