According to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, Missouri ranks in the top ten states for utilization of technology in state government.
“Under Governor [Jay] Nixon’s leadership, the state’s use of information technology has made huge strides across the board,” Office of Administration Commissioner Kelvin Simmons said. “I’m proud of the rapid progress we’ve made and look forward to continuing to meet the needs of taxpayers at a lower cost, while delivering services more efficiently.”
In the same survey, Missouri jumped from number 27 in 2007, to ten just three years later.
“We are making state government smarter, more efficient and effective by putting more key services and information online, 24/7, at MO.gov,” Nixon said. “Our improved e-government services make it easier to pay your taxes, find job opportunities, or book a campsite at a state park online. During state emergencies – from floods to snowstorms to tornadoes -MO.gov is the place to go for up-to-the-minute information on weather, road conditions, shelter, supplies and emergency protocols.”
Last fall, Missouri began to expand access to broadband with the acquisition of more than $290 million in federal grants to be targeted in an attempt to connect rural parts of the state to the internet.
