According to Juggle.com, this year’s recipients applied innovative web technology in order to provide citizens with greater access to government information and services. ValdostaCity.com is one of several government portals embracing the commitment to e-government services making it easier to find government information.
“Clear communication and citizen’s easy access to information is a top concern of Valdosta city leadership and absolutely necessary to perform the work on behalf of our citizens,” said Valdosta City Manager Larry Hanson. “Our objective is to deliver as much fresh, accurate and timely on-demand information to our citizens as possible.”
The city’s website, managed by Public Information Officer Sementha Mathews and Information Technology Manager Steven Carter, features design aids that assist website visitors who generally know what information they need, as well as those who want to surf the site for various city information. The city replaced an outdated website with the current website in October 2007, using the collective resources of a team made up of city employees representing every city department. Since then, the team continues to work together improving the website, making necessary changes and additions, and receiving in-house refresher training semi-annually.
As an award recipient, Valdosta received a feature page on Juggle.com, located at the link below. Other featured Georgia cities are Albany, Alpharetta, East Point, Griffin, Marietta, Peachtree City, Savannah and Smyrna.
