Before this service was introduced, offenders who owed fees for supervision, drug court, or restitution had to mail in a payment coupon along with a cashier’s check or money order to the Department of Community Correction. With the new service, the more than 45,000 eligible offenders can pay their fees electronically with a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card, which is processed through Arkansas.gov’s secure payment engine. A $25 minimum payment is required and a modest service fee will be applied.
“We are very pleased to offer the convenience of online fee payments with a credit card as an option for community correction offenders,” said G. David Guntharp, Director of the Arkansas Department of Community Correction. “This service will also create efficiencies for our agency by reducing staff time spent manually processing paper money orders sent by mail.”
To make a deposit, the credit card holder can visit either the state’s Web site (www.arkansas.gov) or the DCC Web site (www.dcc.arkansas.gov). Using the DCC Personal ID number or by using the offender search capabilities, users will be prompted to enter the payment amount and credit card information.
In 2009, more than $500 million in state and local government payments were securely processed through the system for a variety of services including inmate trust account deposits, child support payments, business filings, state tax filings and county property tax payments.
