Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman announced that the USDA is expanding its pilot e-LDP program to 50 counties, with every state having one participating county. The service, which allows producers to request and receive loan deficiency payments (LDPs) online, has been available as a pilot program in 21 counties since May 2002.

Two Michigan counties have been singled out for using technology to improve services for businesses and citizens. From a field of 150 entrants across the nation, Kent County and Washtenaw County were ranked among the top ten counties for eGovernment services in their respective population categories in the 2003 Digital Counties Survey.

Government to Capitalize on Online Travel Technology That Has Saved Millions Of Dollars for Corporations

GetThere, the leading provider of online corporate travel reservation systems, and CW Government Travel, the largest provider of online travel solutions to the government, today announced they have been awarded a contract to support the U.S. Government's initiative to implement an end-to-end online travel management solution. This conversion to online travel, known as ETS, is targeted at streamlining government travel and offering convenience to travelers, while potentially saving billions of taxpayer dollars.

The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) today announced that its state-of-the art information technology application to advertise federal contract opportunities on the Internet has won a 2003 Government Computer News Award.

GSA was recognized for operating, maintaining and enhancing FedBizOpps.gov, the federal Web site that publishes agency requests for products and services valued above $25,000. GSA's Office of Electronic Government in the Office of Governmentwide Policy and the Federal Supply Service's FedBizOpps Technical Team represented GSA in a field of 120 government organizations in the Government Computer News competition.

The Iowa Treasurers statewide Web site at www.iowatreasurers.org, including the Woodbury County Virtual Treasurers office, has just received two awards for eGovernment achievement and excellence.

The www.iowatreasurers.org Web site was recognized as one of the top 20 e-government initiatives of the year as recipient of the Pioneer Award from E-Gov.com. The Iowa Treasurers were among a world-class list of recipients that included organizations like United Kingdom, NASA, EPA and the Social Security Administration and Ontario, Canada -- to name only a few.
