The chairman of the House Government Reform Committee wants an explanation of the problems facing the E-Authentication initiative.

In a letter sent this week to Stephen Perry, administrator of the General Services Administration, Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) said he is concerned that delays could have serious effects on e-government as a whole.

www.Arkansas.gov Ranked among Five ``Best of the Web'' State Portals by the Center for Digital Government

The redesigned Arkansas state Web portal continues to get attention.

Most recently, the state's official Web site (www.Arkansas.gov) was singled out in the 2003 Best of the Web national competition for eGovernment excellence. The Arkansas portal was ranked fifth among a field of more than 260 public sector Web sites, marking the first time the state's Web efforts earned a top-five placement in the contest.

Eight NIC Partners Recognized in This Year's Nationwide Competition

The country is taking notice of Utah's official Web site. The state's Web portal (www.Utah.gov) captured first place among states in the 2003 Best of the Web national competition for government Web site excellence, marking the first time Utah has been ranked among the top five finishers. eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq:EGOV) manages Utah's Web portal on behalf of the state, and a total of eight NIC state and local partners were singled out from a field of more than 260 public sector Web sites in this year's contest.

www.Maine.gov and the Maine Secretary of State portal recognized as "Best of the Web" by the Center for Digital Government

Two of Maine's official Web sites have been singled out in the 2003 Best of the Web national competition for eGovernment excellence. The state's official portal (www.Maine.gov) was ranked second among a field of more than 260 public sector Web sites, and the online government services offered by Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky (www.Maine.gov/sos) were also recognized in the constitutional officer category.

Rep. Tom Davis is questioning whether the General Services Administration’s E-Authentication Quicksilver initiative will be completed by March and wants to know how the project’s delays are affecting the other 24 e-government initiatives.

In a letter to GSA administrator Stephen Perry, Davis (R-Va.), chairman of the Government Reform Committee, requested a briefing on GSA’s efforts to address the E-Authentication’s challenges.
