Transforming Government since 2001
Now Any Kansas Government Agency, City or County, Can Have an Online Presence with No Programming or Design Expertise Needed

KanSite (www.kansas.gov/kansite) was created as a Web site content management system for Kansas governmental entities. KanSite is easy-to-use, improves public access to government services, reduces service-processing costs, and enables governments to deliver a higher quality of services to their constituents. KanSite provides the ability to easily create and maintain a Web site without prior programming or design experience.

President Obama's emphasis on achieving management transparency places high expectations on executives who run agencies, programs and administrative functions to engage in data-driven decision-making. They can expect to be asked to analyze what their agencies spent and the results achieved. They will be under pressure to respond quickly with hard data that can facilitate tough choices.

Thanks to their investment in financial management systems, many agencies are well-positioned to respond. The 1990 Chief Financial Officers Act and follow-on legislation spurred agencies to automate financial operations using enterprise resource planning software. This created a disciplined process of data entry, internal controls that standardized operating procedures, and accurate and useful financial reports delivered on defined and tightly controlled timelines.

Comments on broadband plan resulting from stimulus legislation

Libraries can play a crucial role in developing the national broadband plan that will result from recent stimulus legislation, says the American Library Association (ALA) in comments before the Federal Communications Commission.

“The national broadband plan has the potential to benefit millions of people by enabling high-capacity, ‘future-proof’ connections to the Internet in large multi-user locations such as libraries,” said Emily Sheketoff, executive director of ALA’s Washington Office. As the premier public computing centers around the country, libraries can serve as “community anchor institutions” by providing broadband, Sheketoff said.

The eRulemaking Program, a federal-wide E-Government project led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has launched Regulations.gov/Exchange, the one-stop, online source for citizens to search, view, and comment on regulations issued by the U.S. government.

In the past, the paper process limited the public's ability to find rules and comment. Today, the public can explore new features for Regulations.gov, post opinions, and engage directly with other users and with eRulemaking program staff. Regulations.gov Exchange will be open for public participation through July 21.
